PARENT INPUT FOR CLASS PLACEMENT
2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR

It is our intent to work with parents to provide the best educational setting possible for their children at PVMS.  Assignment of students to classes is an important part of developing classroom communities that support learning for every child.  Several elements are considered when making class placements.  They are:

•     Academic, gender, and ethnic balance of the classroom
•     Strengths and styles of individual teachers
•     Teacher input and recommendations
•     Parent input and recommendations
•     Other factors specific to the individual child

Parents may provide input on class placement for their child(ren).  Parents may write a letter about their child(ren) that will assist the school in making placement decisions. Specific recommendations should be accompanied with very clear reasons for that request.  Requests for a specific teacher also need to include at least two teacher choices in the event that the first request cannot be met.  The school will consider the information the parent submits as a part of the placement process.  However, please understand that parent input is one of five factors that are considered when placing students.  Not all parent requests can be honored.  The principal is responsible for making the final decision regarding class placement.

Parent input letters for the 2016-17 school year will be accepted beginning May 2st through June 2nd.  Letters submitted after June 2nd will still be considered, but those letters submitted during the designated time period will take precedence.  Please fill-in the lines below and sign the bottom indicating that you are aware of the policies associated with class placement.

Some things to understand:
  • At minimum your child will have at least 4 different teachers and as much as 6 different teachers.
  • A teacher request may most likely mean that you will receive the requested teacher once during the six period day.
  • If you request a specific teacher, it may limit elective choices. For example, if you are requesting Teacher A for your child, but would also like the elective of band. Teacher A may be only teaching math the same period in the day in which band is offered. In turn you will have to make a decision, do you want teacher A or the band elective?
